Prednisolone is normally reduced according to the following schedule:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
20 mg<\/span><\/td>\nx<\/span><\/td>\n1 month started on day 2<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
15mg<\/span><\/td>\nx<\/span><\/td>\n1 month<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
10 mg<\/span><\/td>\nx<\/span><\/td>\n1 month<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
5 mg<\/span><\/td>\nx<\/span><\/td>\nthereafter<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Sometimes we will reduce steroids quicker than this. For example due to metabolic adverse effects in a low\/standard rejection risk patient.<\/span><\/p>\n

At 3 months to remain on 5 mg ( some physicians will consider 7.5 mg if >75 kg in weight). Generally patients remain on maintenance dose until the end of the first year and then review.<\/span><\/p>\n

At one year, cessation of Prednisolone may be considered (See steroid withdrawal protocol)<\/span><\/p>\n

NB<\/span><\/strong> caution should be exercised in patients with an increased risk\u009d of rejection.<\/span><\/p>\n

All patients to receive Ranitidine (150 mgs od) along with Prednisolone.<\/span><\/p>\n

This schedule may be altered if rejection occurs.<\/span><\/p>\n
